Week 9!

Well, this week was a much needed week off from assignments. I needed to get caught up in my job and other classes. However, I been thinking about my web activity for information problem solving. I really have not figured it out but will maybe do something about how to submit an OTM or how to find and join an organization. The number one choice is to come up with a process to build a community among your peers. I believe that is the best route and may be the best most effective choice. Of course, I am going to complete the fair use quiz this coming week and think more about my project. It is time to buckle up because the semester is now speeding.

Week 8!

This week has been a wacky because I got out of routine due to fall break. I went home and visited my family in Mississippi. The break was so short, and I do not feel like I even left VSU. Today, it feels like Tuesday and not Friday, so I am really behind on some paperwork and other things. Well, this week was about the Big 6 Skills that help with processing information in an efficient manner. The first skill is task definition, and that is about identifying what to do. Skill two is information seeking strategies that is concerned with what can you use to find the information you need. The third skill is location and access, and this is the place to get the information. Next, the fourth skill is about the use of information, which deciding what information to use. Now the fifth skill is synthesis, and it deals with putting the information together. Lastly, the sixth skill is the evaluation process that determines how successful you were in processing and finding information. These skills are a very basic approach, but it is very helpful when applying to a research project. I looked at two article about how they used the Big six in activities to help with learning a new task. One of the articles was about a rap contest that the teacher used to help her students learn how to use the Internet for research. She would not let any student leave the contest until they rapped about the Big six as well. It gained some acclaim and was video-tapped and distributed to other schools to help them. The other article was concerned with resiliency among teens from six grade to twelve grade. I believe that my topic could use some things about resiliency because we are all learning how to overcome things, but I could not find anything on service learning or student organization. This week was not that bad for as work, but it was that I was out of routine. The next week should be better for me.

Week 7!

This past week has really gone by really fast. It just seems like yesterday that I was writing about week six's blog. Well, this week I picked out the background site on Google sites. I felt that the wood background would represent my topic of NRHH. The reason that I chose it was because the wood represents building, and NRHH is about building a community. The workings and finding the right things were not that hard at all. This project did not take very long as I had originally thought it would. It was actually very fun, and I cannot wait to do even more about the web page because now everyone is in the nitty gritty of the project. I must say that Google is a wonderful and very interesting tool for the internet because it has so much to offer to everyone. The clip art that I chose was a skull and bones graphic. It is usually associated with poison control, but VSU's chapter name for NRHH is Skull and Bones. The graphic was the best that I could find that would like the part of our chapter. Well, week seven is now in the books so bring on assignment eight. Fall Break is at the beginning of it, so I believe it will be a great week.

Week 6!

Man, this week was not as busy in this class as it has been, but I have a feeling that will change very soon. This past week was concerned with researching two sources off my wepage. It was not difficult to get some things like the URL, publication, date, and background information. I found the authors at ease but had trouble finding blogs connected to them. It may have been because the webpages were created and not updated since the bloom of blogs. However, one of the authors is a computer technology teacher at an Orlando Middle School. Her name is Rosemary Shaw and is well respected nationally. I was surprised that I could not find a blog link to her. She did have an email posted at the end of the article, but the other author did not, which was Christy Carpenter from Bay District Schools in Florida. On the links to other webpages posted on Shaw's article, none of them worked. My guess was that the websites no longer existed or were going through repairs. This was a very fun exercise and now I can see if the person giving me information is being honest or not. The internet can and does con a lot of people. I am looking forward to starting on assignment seven.
