Online Classroom Presentations!

Well, I had a lot of fun viewing and presenting the online resource page. There were many different web pages with several interesting topics. Before we got started with the presentations, everyone was joking and helping others setup on the board, and I thought was very cool of everyone. By viewing the presentations, a very very interesting point was made, and Nicole Gunn brought it. She asked John Lesaine if he had went to any sites about the 2-3 Zone defense that had any video demonstrations. This made me think harder about the fact that I could do the same thing for my topic. Another presentation that was interesting was the one about STD's and cancer. The fact that oral cancer is on the rise for males. I saw that cherry juice may be helpful in treating or preventing and to verify that I need to research that topic a little more. The other web page that caught my dire attention was the one about obesity. Did you know that Mississippi is the most obese state in the union? That is my home state. This was fun, and I wish that we could more of the online classroom. I cannot to finish things up and have a wonderful fall break.

Week 5!

Well, this was a very challenging week as I put together my online resourceweb page. The bookmarking was not difficult because it was the same as assignment 2. I did not have Microsoft Office 2003 on my office computer, so I had to run to my room and convert everything on my personal laptop. Everything was ready to go, and tried to log on to WebCT. A problem occurred and for some reason I cannot log into WebCT at all, so I saved it to my jump drive and took it back to my office computer. Everything looks fine when I opened it up, but when I opened it up after submitting it into WebCT. The quotation marks and apostrophes were in symbols and letters. I used Arial Narrow as my font, and emailed Dr. Leader many times to see what I was doing wrong. He recommended changing the font to Times New Roman, so I did and the same problem occurred. My work and support group partner John Lesaine helped me figure out how to convert the code in Office 2007, and it worked after that. Life was good again after that. The overall project was fun. My favorite part was filling in the red background as it hurts the human eye when looking at it for a long period of time. I guess because of the black and blue font color, and surely the red. They were great combinations. That is how my week went and check out the next blog about the online classroom presentations.

Week 4!

Well, this week has been a very busy one due to some job issues. I am not worried it will get better because it is a new residence hall, and there are a lot of issues. This week was interesting because it was more research, yeah. I have never used the Gateway to Educational Materials before (GEM) before, and it had some really interesting articles. When I want to find more programs or lesson plans, GEM is the way to go. Some things were short and sweet and some were very detailed. It had a great mixture. I enjoy GEM a lot better than ERIC because of the fact fun versus research. Now do not get me wrong because research is good but looking at the material for a while will make your head spin too much. The topics that I looked at were in community involvement, service learning and projects. There was one in GEM about collecting socks and planting them in riverbanks to help protect the watershed and absorb waste. Going green is becoming a real fad as of late, it is important but I fear that it will die out and people will lose the flame. I am optimistic and believe that we care more about it than the average person thinks. When I looked through the ERIC database, I came across some research on a correlation between academic and personal dishonesty, cheating is more like it. The chances of someone cheating on a significant other is greater if someone cheats on an exam. WOW! This week was very tiring, but I cannot wait until next week for my presentation.

Week Three!

Well, this week was a lot like last week because most of the work was dealing with searching websites, but this time the searching was more about searching databases about my topic. First, I used the search directory called Librarians' Internet Index at www.lii.org and found some cool things. Under the category of college and universities, I found sites like collegenews.org, campusrelief.org and campuscompact.org. All of the sites were helpful to my topic of helping College students appreciate and recongize others for their outstanding work. Looking in the invisible web, I found a OTM database that was helpful in how to submit them and what others are submitting. The ERIC Database had a few pop ups but nothing that really stood out. There were some sites that dealt with cultural activities and residence hall community. The last search enginee that I used was Yahoo, and it gave pretty much everything that Google gave me. Mostly, the national site and conference sites along with corporate and non-profit organizations. Me and my partner still have not worked some things through on our online classroom, but later in the week we hope to have mastered it.

Week 2!

Well, this week I searched the web and found some really useful webpages for my topic, which I decided to go with National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) as my topic. Valdosta State University (VSU) does not currently have a site for its chapter. We are the Skull and Bones chapter. The main thing that I want to do with NRHH is to be able to emphasize and bring awarness to residents that live in the residence halls that community is one of the most important things to learn while in college. However, merit and experience paves the way for residents to become members, but it is the service and time that they give and skills learned that needs to be understood. I found sites that helped with community building, team building and service learning. VSU's chapter wants to put on a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society to help those that suffer from cancer. I do believe that many residents could relate to the cause. Moving on, NRHH has a system called "Of the Month's" (OTM's) that residents, resident assistants and other Housing and Residence Life staff members submit for a great program, bulletin board, door tag or an act of random kindness. Somewhere in the website, I want to put a link that takes visitors to the submission form. I also have an idea of showing steps of how to submit and maybe use it as a problem solving activity. That part of the construction is still in the works. My partner John Lesaine and I played around with the online classroom today, but we did not discuss the online activity as of yet. We plan to talk about that on Thursday. Well, that is it for week 2 and week 3 is underway.
